Regardless of whether it is an embroidered t-shirt or workwear, taking proper care of these garments is essential to ensure they stand the test of time.
We always recommend following the fabric care instructions on each item, but here are few tips we have put together that might come in handy.
Hand washing:
Handwashing is the gentlest and most effective method. Start by filling a basin with cold water and add some mild detergent. Allow the detergent to dissolve before submerging your embroidered garment. Avoid vigorous rubbing, as it can damage the delicate threads. Allow item to air dry.
Machine washing:
However, we realised handwashing is not a practical solution since not everyone has the time to handwash their clothe.
If you do choose machine wash, we recommend the following:
- Washing: Turn the item inside out to protect the embroidery from friction and abrasion during washing. Use a mild detergent rather than bleach or harsh chemicals to prevent damaging the embroidery and the fabric itself. If the embroidery features bright colours, a gentle cold wash can reduce the chance of colours bleeding.
- Drying: Allow the item to air dry. Do not use a tumble dryer for embroidered items; the heat can damage the embroidery, which can cause shrinkage.
- Ironing: Requires a delicate touch to ensure that the intricate embroidery remains intact. Set your iron to the lowest heat setting i.e. silk or wool setting, to avoid damaging the threads. Place a pressing cloth over the embroidered area which function as a protective barrier. Gently glide the iron over the cloth, applying light pressure. Avoid using steam settings, as excess moisture can harm the delicate threads or iron on the reverse side.
- Storing: It is common to hang garment, however embroidered items are better stored flat in a cool and dry place. Hanging can distort the shape of the garment and cause stress on the embroidery threads.
Hope these quick tips are helpful to keep your embroidery looking new!
